The small Welsh village of Newborough is in the south west corner of Anglesey. It is in the area of Rhosyr and today has a population of just over 2000. Despite its relative isolation on Anglesey it held its own races in the middle of the 18th century with results reported in the Historical List of Races. The meeting took place on Tuesday 4th October 1757 and the principal Sweepstake was well contested, resulting in a win for Mr Morris’s Black Jack, overcoming the late challenge of Leigh and Mr Lloyd’s Fanny. There are no records of further meetings taking place in the village. |
